Saskatchewan Wildfire


OVERVIEW

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is where the wildfire program is situated, with headquarters located in Regina. The province is divided into four response areas, and those areas are further subdivided into protection areas.

The Response Areas and their subsequent Protection Areas are as follows:

  • Northern (La Ronge and Denare Beach Protection Area)

  • Eastern (Weyakwin, Lower Fishing Lake, Prince Albert, and Hudson Bay)

  • Southern (Cypress Hills Protection Area)

  • Western (Buffalo Narrows, Dorintosh, Île-à-la-Crosse, and Big River)

Boots on the Ground is approximately 630, with around 220 Type 1 firefighters and the remaining 410 Type 2 firefighters.
