Today’s Overview

And there we have it….Prep Level 5 (PL5) after just two days at PL4. Bit of a fast transition really, but just goes to show how dry things are and it’s only May.

She’s not looking good so far this season.

Back to the overview, Manitoba and Saskatchewan hitting PL5 should not be surprising given the level of activity and fire behaviour we’ve been seeing in the news over the past week.

While Alberta started strong this season with a number of quick starts, as is usual for the province, they went into a slight dip for a week or two. However, they are now back with a vengeance thanks to the lightning strikes that passed through there.

Adding to the mix, is BC with fire’s popping in the northeast corner of the province where there’s been a load of activity over the past year or two.

We’re getting closer to the weekend, and between evacuations, alerts and fire bans, let’s hope that nationally we can keep human caused fires to zero while agencies work to get a handle of the current fire load as well as any new starts.
